Who is Sarah Palin? A better role model than Paris Hilton, Britney or Katy Perry?

Yes! she is a better role model and Palin represents a fresh model for real women in today's world especially to those who looks or behave like Barbie dolls. Sarah Heath(Not Husein) Palin arrived in Alaska with her family in 1964, when her parents came to teach school in Skagway. Palin, who graduated from Wasilla High School in 1982 later received a bachelor of science degree in communications-journalism from the University of Idaho in 1987. She is married to Todd Palin, who is a lifelong Alaskan, a production operator on the North Slope and a four-time champion of the Iron Dog, the world’s longest snowmachine race. Todd and Sarah fish in Bristol Bay with their children — Track, Bristol, Willow, Piper and Trig.

These days web buzz seems to be focused squarely on Barack Obama's "lipstick on a pig" jab at McCain. Obviously, a lot of people are taking that as a swipe against Palin, while Obama is insisting that he was misunderstood. So, who is right? Well, that's a tricky question. I will admit that I not only know the euphemism "lipstick on a pig", but use it on a regular basis. It is entirely possible that Sen. Obama was referencing the McCain campaign in general, but that's certainly not how it is understood by his audience. He wasn't even able to finish his joke before the audience started laughing at the connection with Gov. Palin.

Like it or not, Gov. Palin's "Pitbull in Lipstick" quip at the GOP convention is one of the most memorable lines of this election. It's been scrawled on signs, printed on t-shirts, and satirized by almost every political cartoonist in the country. Hence, you can no longer use the word "lipstick" in a speech without your audience thinking that you are making a Palin joke. I will be the first to admit that I don't know what Barack Obama was thinking when he made the remark, but whether he was referencing Sarah or not, he (or his handlers) should have known better. It was a tremendously idiotic move which showed (once again) that Senator Obama doesn't have much of a filter between his brain and his mouth. If you haven't heard yet, the numerous polls show the McCain-Palin ticket dramatically stealing the lead from Obama-Biden. A USA Today/Gallup poll even shows a 3% McCain-Palin lead among likely voters.

So, the Palin nomination (coupled with a fantastic convention) has definitely invigorated the McCain campaign. There is good reason to believe that the dynamics of this election have changed. By nominating Palin, the McCain campaign has recaptured the "maverick" label and ripped the "change" argument out from under Barack Obama. Meanwhile, GOP camp has overhauled the McCain campaign, molding it into a lean, mean electoral machine. And finally, Barack Obama has thrown his campaign totally off message by nominating Washington insider Joe Biden as his VP. With all of those factors working in McCain's favor, it is not a stretch to think that the War hero POW from Arizona will still be in the lead once the polls stabilize.

It also does not appear that "Sarahmania" will flame out any time soon. The McCain campaign is wisely choosing to keep her in the news rather than allowing her to disappear until the debates. This will allow Palin's star power to continue to lift the McCain campaign and build anticipation for the debates. Sarah should do well against Biden, launching a second round of Palin-buzz akin to what we saw after her convention speech. McCain himself will also get a jolt out of the debates later in the month, as he shines brightest in Q&A sessions. Obama, on the other hand, is best when he delivers uninterrupted inspiring speeches.

I remember as a young individual one of my neighborhood friends who is a girl being so excited when Geraldine Ferraro ran for vice president on the Democratic slate in 1984.
Even though she didn’t win, the fact that a woman could be a major party candidate opened the horizons. It’s been a long time waiting for another woman on a national ticket. But the day has come, with Republican Sen. John McCain’s choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate. And not only is she female, she’s a working mom with five children! That alone is already more experience than Obama having only two daughters! I hope that her candidacy will inspire the next generation of young girls to believe they too can achieve anything they dream in America. Thank God McCain didn't pick someone boring or outrageous like Paris Hilton. Can you imagine even as far fetch of a Mavericks that he is!

Palin is pro-life and against same-sex marriage but claims to have good friends who are gay. In 2006 while running for governor, she said she would support a ballot initiative that denied benefits to same-sex couples, but her first veto as governor shot down such a bill. She is Christian and pro-life, but also a supporter of birth control. She's a member of Feminists For Life (FFL), an anti-abortion, pro-contraception organization. In 2002, she wrote a letter to FFL stating that she had "adamantly supported our cause since I first understood, as a child, the atrocity of abortion." She supports the teaching of creationism in public schools, alongside evolution. She is also a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association and supports the constitutional right to bear arms. We need more people like Sarah Palin, who didn't have the grades or financials for IVY league school but believe in hard work, persistent drives and the American way of achieving what is right. Today she is a GOP Veep Candidate and come Jan 2009, she will be the Veep of the great United States.

Thank goodness the only tie in between Katy Perry, Britney and Paris Hilton to Sarah Palin is simply Sarah Palin have overtaken these younger barbie like girls in popularity search on the Internet. More people are paying attention to Palin and this represents a more positive trend. I’d love to hear what you think!

George Bernard Shaw, speaking of Nietzsche's writings, referred to "... deliberate plots hatched by malignant philosophers to frustrate the evolution of the human race and mass the stupidity and brute force of the many weak against the beneficial tyranny of the few strong." This was a description for democracy, christianity, and socialism which he attributed to Nietzsche. He also points out that there is as much evidence for the claim as there would be if it were true, and asserts that Nietzsche's is the work of rare spirit and is "pregnant with its vitality."

The "stupidity and brute force of the many weak" is exactly what political power amounts to. I recently read an essay by Thomas Paine in which he pointed out that England encouraged war among African tribes for the specific effect that prisoners of war could then be captured, and English slave traders could buy them. It's immoral, after all, to sell one of "your own subjects" as a slave. It reminded me a lot of the wars our country has waged for the specific effect of providing lucrative contracts to the military-industrial complex. Our rulers have made us slaves to each other, and our elections make that seem like something we chose. I refuse to choose it, and I cannot therefore, in good conscience, participate in the elections.

I agree that Sarah Palin can stand as a good role model for the young girls of today. It shows that you can reach any level in your chosen profession. She isn't, however, even close to being ready to serve in an office as high as Vice-President. Not even close!

Obama's remark about lipstick on a pig was absolutely NOT referencing Palin. The McCain camp just wants us to think he was, and tried very hard to make it sound that way. McCain, in fact, has used that very same phrase about things during his own campaign. He, of course, says that when he said it, it was "different". Hmmm. Yeah, OK.

I think that, as per usual at this late stage of the game, it behooves each and every one of us to do A LOT of fact finding on our own, rather than believe everything we read. There's just way too much spin on EVERYTHING from both camps!

This is certainly a very interesting post.

I can't believe you would even think that Palin is a good role model for women. She is evil and manipulative and only wants to spread her own Christian agenda. She doesn't even believe in a woman's right to choose, much less to educate teenagers on how having sex might affect their lives. Clearly teaching abstinence did NOT work in her own household. She is based on nothing but lies, and will take anyone out who does not agree with her close-minded agenda. I'm sure she's an intelligent individual, but I think it's a sad day for every woman in this country that she would be the one chosen as a "qualified" candidate to run with McCain's campaign. She obviously fits well in their "the truth doesn't matter" campaign they're running, but it will be an incredibly devastating blow if enough people in this country have the wool pulled over their eyes by these maniacs to get elected. This country has already been driven into the ground by the current failed administration, why in the world would we want to continue down the same path? What is wrong with Americans today?

Actually, I shouldn't say what's wrong with Americans, because there are plenty of amazing people in this country. It's more the people who support McCain that frustrate me.

Just because Sarah Palin has ovaries does not mean she would make a decent VP. Her colleagues in Alaska have referred to her as a "wacko" and a "wing nut". I don't know about you, but I don't want my children taught that dinosaurs existed 4000 years ago. Palin supports inhumane hunting from the air. She's against sex education! She has tried to ban books. She does not believe in the separation of church and state.
I have some acquaintances who are military and quite right wing, but they lived in Alaska until a few months ago. They are no longer voting for McCain because of Palin.A good friend of mine used to live in Wassila. She said Palin is considered a joke and a crook.
Palin supported the "bridge to nowhere" and said it was a terrible insult to her constiuents to CALL it a bridge to nowhere. Now she brags that she put a stop to that "bridge to nowhere". What she hasn't mentioned is that she kept the money. She makes A TON of money for Alaska through earmarks and pork barrel spending, which McCain is against.
Besides all of this she is an international joke. Regardless of how you feel about her that should be a consideration. It is not to be taken lightly. The United States has already come down quite a bit in world prestige. We stand to lose our position as the world's moral compass and most powerful friend and ally because of this. If you don't believe me do a tiny bit of research in any other country's newspaper.
Really, she is the most competent Republican woman the McCain camp could pick? One who is already being investigated in Alaska for various wrongdoing including unlawful firings?
Palin is scary. She could be the next President if something happened to McCain and she is utterly incompetent. She has no experience. She is not a maverick and more than McCain is. CHECK HER OUT! Do your research.

Comparing Sarah Palin to the *other* airheads in your post (who, believe it or not actually have some merit collectively and individually) is a straw (wo)man.

What's the difference between comparing Palin to three notorious media whores and comparing George W. Bush to a monkey?

Lipstick.

Please, give me a break.

As a woman and a one-time Republican, I am insulted beyond belief by John McCain's nomination of a know-nothing noob like Sarah Palin as his running mate.

I find his choice especially puzzling given the plethora of highly-experienced Republican women he could have chosen from (if the idea was to get a woman on the ticket): Elizabeth Dole, Kay Bailey Hutchinson, Condoleeza Rice, etc. Not to mention all the extremely qualified men who were apparently on the "short list" (assuming the idea was to simply get the best possible running mate regardless of gender).

I mean, really -- it calls into question his power of judgment, in a big way. Is someone who would allow himself to be pressured into making such a hasty and ill-considered decision actually qualified to run the country?

There is NO WAY ON GOD'S GREEN EARTH that Sarah Palin, bless her heart, was the best-qualified person available. I'm sorry, but being a former beauty queen, a mother of five, a one-term mayor of a podunk hamlet out in the sticks (and I say this as a person who lives out in the sticks herself), and serving as governor of one of the nation's least-populated states for less than two years is NOT by any stretch of the imagination sufficient qualifications for being a heartbeat away from leader of the free world.

The story is coming out in bits and pieces, but the more I read it seems clear she was inadequately vetted before she was offered the nomination. I mean, for crying out loud, she's already under investigation by the (Republican-controlled) Alaska legislature for possible abuse of power. Being called out by members of your own party, after less than two years in office? This isn't what I'd call a Good Sign.

I am frightened by what revelations may come out about her before (or worse, after) the election. She could single-handedly set back the cause of women in politics by a generation or more. Those who don't want women in positions of power will point to her as justification why women aren't ready for the national stage.

But (putting on my tinfoil hat) maybe that was the idea...

She is the kind of woman to run washington! As a soccer mom myself, I identify with her but she is superhuman for having 5 kids.

Anonymous said...

It's hard to imagine just having 5 kids let alone running to be VP of the greatest nation on earth. Sarah is a Hero here in Alaska and she represents the frontier spirit. She is a real woman in our modern time.

Anonymous said...

We need a real woman, a real mom and a real difference maker in the White House! She fits all that.

Anonymous said...

Tina Fey was hilarious on SNL and she look just like Palin. Great post here! and I agree.

Anonymous said...

She got looks equal to her smarts! If she could handle 5 children, a family,a PTA meeting, City counsels members, a town, a state...a nation is a no brainer.

Anonymous said...

I can't believe some of the ignorance by some of the commentators here. She is an inspiration. Try raising 5 kids! with one being special needs! There are too many idiots in this world. I hope she gets elected and clean up some of policy mess we have in this country! She needs to go idiot hunting!

Wow - Lots of hatred of Sarah palin. I suppose people either lover her or hate her. The hatred stems from those on the left who are fearful that their 'messiah' may now loose, doesn't carry a banner of true change, etc.

I LOVE when the B. Husain, Obamma disciples compare Governor Palin to him.

The Governor of Alaska does represent change. She is more down to earth, of the people, than McCain, Obama, or Biden. Its not that she is a woman its that she is a no nonsense common sense American.

I like the fact that she says what the American people feel ... like it or not she speaks what we have been thinking in a no nonsense, no holding back, no fear approach.
